The Ondo State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has called for the immediate dissolution of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), in the state over what it termed continue 'mal-administration of government.'

Bosede Daramola, chairperson of the chapter, made the call on Thursday at a protest rally held in Akure to demand the reasons behind the victimization of workers at the local government service commission level.

Daramola bemoaned at the way the commission is being run, and accused its officials of selfish interests.  She stressed that members of the labour unions in the state could no longer watch the 'unjust attitude' of the commission and the pain it is inflicting on workers.

According to her, the commission without genuine reasons has refused to promote workers, thus sending many into untold hardship.

"Since the past five years no promotion has been done in the service of the local government while only victimization of worker is the achievement they carried out.

"Our belief is that all these are being done for selfish interest and not punish innocent workers unjustly".

She added that the labour union will object to ineptitude at the commission and any further attempts to sabotage the efforts of the workers or inflict unjust punishment on them.

They also accused the Administrative Secretary of the LGSC, Mrs. Odunayo Ketiku, of placing junior workers above their seniors, and of colluding with unnamed members of the commission in milking the treasury of the LGSC, stressing that many workers have died during her tenure in the office.

Along with their colleagues from the Trade Union Congress in the state, Daramola and members of the NLC danced round the premises of the LDSC for several hours, thereby paralyzing normal activity.

Many of them were armed with placards bearing inscriptions such as "No promotion, No absorption,” No regularization this is inhuman,"  “Dissolve LGSC now Mimiko!”

Others read: “This Commission has lost its glory,” Remove Delilah Jezebel Ketiku Now to prevent incessant sudden death of LG workers."

Efforts to speak to the Administrative Secretary to hear her side of the story proved abortive.  Sources however told SaharaReporters that Mrs Ketiku, who is the wife of the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in the state, Bishop Joshua Ketiku, is innocent of the allegations.

It was later gathered, that she may subsequently address journalists on the issue.
