It is the second explosion in the area in the past year in the Sabon Gari area, with the first one leaving heavy causalities.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene of the blast today, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderenle Shinaba, said the explosive had been craftily concealed in a refrigerator which was loaded inside a luxury bus billed to travel to Port Harcourt.

According to Shinaba, minutes after the explosive-laden refrigerator was loaded onto the bus, it detonated, leading to the fatality and injuries, as well as damage to the bus. The victims were taken to Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital in Kano for treatment.

“I am just on my way to the hospital to closely monitor how the injured victims were treated, we are still monitoring the situation and we will keep you posted,” Shinaba told reporters.

He revealed that since the first explosion at the motor park, the command has held several consultations with owners of the park on how to beef up security, including rigorous checks, adding that the discussions about how to avert similar incidents had been fruitful.

Our correspondent, who was at the scene of the blast, reports that Sabon Gari Area was peaceful and calm with people going about normal businesses.
