A Nigerian regional group, the Igbo Progressive Youths, has faulted a recent endorsement of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan's presidential re-election bid by the Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Council, saying it contradicted the constitution and collective stance of the umbrella body for all Igbo people known as the Ohaneze Ndigbo.

Known for his usually fiery sermons, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Catholic Adoration Ministry, Enugu, had in his annual New Year message told a packed gathering of Catholic faithful that President Jonathan ought to have resigned voluntarily.
He hinged his position on the president's failure to effectively tackle palpable problems of corruption, unemployment, decaying infrastructure, and sectarian insurgency. The prominent priest also called on Nigerians to cast their votes in favor of the presidential candidate of the opposition, the All Progressive Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim and former military Head of State.
