Gubernatorial Debates In Lagos Organized By Youth And Civil Society Organizations

“The debate underlying philosophy is to influence the direction of growth and development in Lagos State by creating a platform for informed electorates’ decision,” the press release said. Mr. Jelili told Sahara Reporters that he wanted to emphasize that “we are not politically aligned, the purpose is to publically display their party manifestos” for the Lagos residents.

In an exclusive interview with SaharaTV, Adebiyi Jelili a PhD student at Michigan State University and Nigerian citizen, shared plans on the independently organized Lagos State gubernatorial debates planned for February 4th 2015, held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) that he is organizing with civil society groups.

The lead organizations planning the debate are the Students Youth Assembly, the Department of Political Science at the UNILAG, and the National Association of Political Science Students at the UNILAG. According to the press release provided to Sahara Reporters, the debate will be moderated by renowned international law professor Akin Oyebode and will include Department Head of Political Science at UNILAG Dr. Solomon Akinboye as the Chief Panelist.

The gubernatorial debates will include both major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Jelili told SaharaTV. “Our intent is address issues facing Nigeria, and not petty distractions” which have marred the political landscape in recent months.

The debates, held at the University of Lagos main auditorium on February 4th 2015 at 10AM West Africa Time Zone.
