Stop Wasting Ondo State’s Meager Funds On Frivolous Presidential Campaigns, Ondo APC Cautions Mimiko

February 24, 2015

Ondo State APC publicity secretary, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, told journalists on Monday evening in Akure, the capital city, that the governor’s action have been bolstered by his recent illegal meeting with some of the region’s Yoruba leaders. During the meeting, public funding was reportedly used in hosting and transporting members of the PDP to a five star hotel in Akure.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Ondo State has recently expressed concern with ‘frivolous spending’ that Governor Olusegun Mimiko has reportedly done from the state pocket for the re-election campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Those in attendance were mostly members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including leaders of a faction of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, who recently endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for another term in office,” the party said. “The governor spent several millions of Naira to host this post-confab meeting that turned out to be an endorsement of Jonathan for a second term.”

Each attendee was reportedly also given millions of Naira for their attendance.

“The meeting was uncalled for at this crucial time of our dear nation and the confab report, that is still not known to the National Assembly months thereafter, people say is jamboree. No wonder numerous major political figures from the Southwest region on Thursday were conspicuously absent from this ‘post-national conference summit,’” Adesanya challenged.

“The caliber of people present at the so-called summit cannot represent the entire interest of the Yoruba race, they are not Yoruba leaders but dealers, thereby making whole exercise futile.”

The party chapter also advised the governor to concentrate on projects in the state before the expiration of his tenure.

“Mimiko should focus on his electoral promise of 'I Work For You, I Will Know Your House', by fixing the bad roads in Akoko, Akure, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Ilaje and other areas in the state. [Or] by employing the 2,000 teachers he promised the people of the state, after going through a series of tests and screenings. [Or he could] revive the Oluwa Glass Factory, Igbokoda and other moribund industries in the state,” the statement furthered.
