Mr. Agbaje who spoke to journalists in Akure, the State capital, said the hoodlums were "shot and "killed" by officers of the Nigerian Navy stationed on the waterways to monitor the elections.

There were several reported cases of electoral manipulation and ballot snatching in the Ilaje local government.

The Electoral Commissioner, Segun Agbaje, informed Sahara Reporters that the suspects obstructed the election by snatching ballot boxes and papers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ad hoc staffs.

"Following repeated complaints from our electoral officer in Ilaje local government, the Navy stationed in the waterside area swung into action and moved into the seas and shot two of the hoodlums.", he said.

Agbaje disclosed that mobile phones and ammunitions snatched from the Commission's ad hoc staffs were later recovered from the hoodlums.

A local, Omomaye ibukun, who resides in the coaster community told SaharaReporters Correspondent  that the hoodlums were working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and were believed to be sponsored for the attack.

The local further informed SaharaReporters that some arrest have been made ‎and the case is now being handled by the Police in the state.

Efforts were made to contact the police image maker of the state, Oluwole Ogodo, but SaharaReporters was unable to reach him.
