The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) declared today that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Nyesom Wike won the gubernatorial race in Rivers State, gaining more than 87% of the votes cast. The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Dakuku Peterside managed to secure around 10% of the vote.

Rivers State has been the location of the country's most severe violence during this election with reports of poll violence, attacks on INEC officials, attempted assassination, and mobilization of armed thugs.
