400 Die Off Libyan Coast In Capsized Boat, Reports Say

So far, the Italian coastguard has rescued 144 people and confirmed 9 fatalities.

According to the aid group Save the Children, about 400 people are believed to have drowned off the coast of Libya when a migrant boat capsized.

The boat capsized only 24 hours after it departed from the coast of Libya.

So far, the Italian coastguard has rescued 144 people.  However due to the size of the boat and accounts by witnesses many more are feared to have drowned. 

Nine bodies have already been recovered.

According to the International Organization for Migration, up to 3,072 people are feared to have died crossing the Mediterranean in 2014.

Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the cause of the boat capsizing.
