INEC Declares Ikpeazu Governor-Elect In Abia State

INEC had declared the gubernatorial polls in Abia State on April 11th inconclusive, given the concern for electoral irregularities and allegations of vote rigging. Saturday, April 25th elections had very low voter turnout, according to reports.

The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) declared Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu the winner in last Saturday’s supplementary election. Ikpeazu successfully defeated his closest opponent Alex Otti who was running on the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) ticket.

INEC’s official tallies of the two leading candidates are:

PDP – 264,713

APGA – 180,882

Abia State is the second of three April 25th supplementary gubernatorial races to be won by a PDP candidate.
