Four Chinese textile merchants have been arrested by the Customs Comptroller General Anti-smuggling Task Force for illegally importing contraband and sub-substandard textile materials running into several billions of Naira.

Head of the Task Force, Mr. Hassan Shalangwa, told journalists in Kano on Thursday that the seizure was the largest single-seizure made by the Customs in recent times.

According to him, the Customs have identified over 20 warehouses in Kano where such materials were being stocked, adding that the operation was made possible as a result of a tip-off gathered directly by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi.

Shallangwa insisted that the four suspects namely Ciay Guoxu, Lio Yang, Zhao Shou Min and Zhouyin Xue will soon be taken to court and face prosecution in line with Nigerian laws.
