An Ondo-based lawyer and human rights activist, Morakinyo Ogele, has berated the Police in Ekiti State for the rising wave of kidnappings of innocent citizens in the State.

Barrister Ogele, in a statement obtained by SaharaReporters issued on Monday in Akure, the State capital, said that the Police remained silent on ‎the kidnapping of people in Ekiti State suggests more danger to come.

"Why Police are remaining silent in this type of situation is unknown, when prominent of Ekiti indigenes are kidnapped and carried to unknown place is shrouded in secrecy," the statement read in part.

‎‎Ogele also accused the Police of covering some suspected criminals within the Ekiti State House of Assembly whom he claims their activities looks suspicious.

"It was learnt that some of these criminals are within [the Ekiti House of Assembly] and are feeding fat within the Complex,” he added.

He lambasted the Police in Ekiti State for not doing their job adequately, and bemoaned why no one is yet to be arrested in connection with the crime.

"Ekiti‎ State Police Command should tell the world why they have not arrested any of these kidnappers or why their operations have not prevented the kidnapping innocent citizens".

According to him, the ‎rate at which kidnappers are operating in Ekiti State with impunity without police intervention is embarrassing.

"It is surprising that the activities of these criminal minded people are flourishing on daily basis", he said.

Ogele called on the people of Ekiti State to rise up against the impunity and inaction of the Police being perpetrated in the state.

"Those in authorities should not forget that when you intimidate people beyond reasonable point, then they call for a serious revolution which will be hatched from cellar."

"We have been taken back to the a state of nature or banana republic. I am calling on the people of Ekiti to rise up and get rid of these criminals in Ekiti State presently and to be security conscious", he said.

The lawyer also advised the ‎inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to change all the Police Officers in the State, if they failed to fish out the kidnappers.
