More than forty motorbikes and other property were destroyed during a protest in Kuje area of Abuja yesterday, according to a SaharaReporters correspondent at the scene.

The protest was incited when a motorbike operator stabbed a Federal Road Safety Corps worker during a confrontation. SaharaReporters’ correspondent witnessed the protestors grow and quickly outnumber the local police who responded to the scene.

Local residents in Kuje became frightened as the tension escalated between the police and protesters, and teargas needed to be deployed at one point according to photos exclusively taken by SaharaReporters.

As the situation grew beyond the capacity of the local police, they needed to call in military officials to calm crowds and bring the scene under control.
