Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s gubernatorial inauguration in Kaduna State ended suddenly on Friday, after angry youth threw stones, water satchels, and any other materials in their reach at him and his procession. Also present in the procession were the Emir of Zaria, Shehu Idris, and the State Chief Judge Taminu Zailani.

Amid the chaos, the Senator-elect Shehu Sani stuffed the Chief Judge Zailani into his car and fled to her nearby home.

The youth were complaining about their fear that resources were being plundered from the State. They accused the leaders of colluding with the outgoing Governor, Mukhtar Ramallan Yero to steal reserves from the State.

The mob were also calling for the dethronement of the Emir who had to be evacuated by his own palace guards during the chaos.

Security agents had to fire tear gas into the crowd at the Murtala Square in Kaduna in order to disperse the raucous crowd.

There have been no reports of injuries from the angry protesting. Governor El-Rufai was, however, unable to complete the remainder of the scheduled public activities for the day which included a parade from Murtala Square.
