Governor Ambode Urges Lawmakers To Focus On Improving Lives Of Lagos Citizens

Ambode said, "As their servants, their opinions must always count; it is in this regard, I urge you to maintain close relationships with your constituencies. This is the only way their aspirations can be gauged and harmonized into laws and policies."

This Monday Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State spoke at the Inauguration of the 8th Assembly which took place at the Lagos State House of Assembly complex, Alausa.

At this gathering he charged all lawmakers to sustain and surpass the standard set by the past legislative and executives branches of the government and to always consider the people of Lagos.

Ambode said, "As their servants, their opinions must always count; it is in this regard, I urge you to maintain close relationships with your constituencies. This is the only way their aspirations can be gauged and harmonized into laws and policies."

Ambode stated that he himself will do his due diligence to legitimize all policies of the government in better service of the people.

"I will work and collaborate with you and also respect your views and opinions, irrespective of the party you represent."

Following the Inauguration the legislators elected a Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa (Agege 1) and Mr. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni (Lagos Island 1) respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Obasa echoed Governor Ambode by saying the lawmakers would strive to work in harmonious unity with other branches of the government so that the State could progress.

"Let's keep Lagos working, this is the most important job... If we fail from keeping Lagos working, then we would have failed on this job individually and collectively. We are stewards of the public trust. I, on this occasion, want to call on His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to let us collaborate to move Lagos to the next level," Mr. Obasa said.

Governor Ambode has spoken well about Mr. Obasa's role as the Speaker of the House of Assembly. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, Ambode described Obasa as an experienced legislator and administrator.

Moreover, he applauded the members of the House for the smooth and peaceful way they executed the elections for new leaders.

Ambode said, "This has once again confirmed the rating of the House as the most vibrant Legislature in the Federation.”

The 8th Lagos House Assembly is comprised of 32 All Progressive Congress (APC) members and 8 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members. They are at the forefront of the movement to renew and rebuild the political processes of Lagos.
