Nine People Sentenced To Death In Kano For Blasphemy

A press statement by the State Sharia Court of Appeal, signed by Malam Nasiru, said the nine were found guilty under Sections 110 and 382b of the Sharia Penal Court law of 2000.

On Thursday, nine peeople, including Abdul-Inyas and Hajiya Mairo, were sentenced to death for blasphemy against the Prophet Muhammad.

A press statement by the State Sharia Court of Appeal, signed by Malam Nasiru, said the nine were found guilty under Sections 110 and 382b of the Sharia Penal Court law of 2000.

“They are hereby sentenced to death,” the statement read.

The offence was committed in early June this year, leading to a public protest in Kano. 

The court however freed Alkasim Abubakar, Yahya Abubakar, Isa Abubakar, and Abdullahi Abubakar who had all been arrested along with the nine convicted people. They were found not guilty by the court.

The announcement of the sentence led to wild jubilation in the city of Kano the decision of the Upper Sharia Court.
