Angry Civil Rights Activists and Youth Leaders from Bayelsa State, yesterday, threatened to drag the State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, to Court over his refusal to fulfill a social contract signed three years ago between his administration and renounced cultists over rehabilitation and Bursary payment plans.

The aggrieved Civil Rights Activists, in coalition with officials of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), also demanded an apology from the State Governor over the alleged failure of the present administration to honor the contract that was signed with the youth to foster Youth Empowerment and Development in the state.

The Former President of the NYCN in Bayelsa and a Youth Empowerment Advocate, Comrade Bright Igrubia, who made this known in Yenagoa during a special Radio Interactive programme, said the aggrieved youth leaders have handed a 30-day ultimatum to Hon. Dickson to review his government’s policies on Youth Development, and reverse the noticeable retrogressive effects of such policies on youth in the last few months.

Igruibia noted that the relationship between the youth and the State Government has deteriorated, with poor communication gaps. According to Igrubia, "The Youth are angry because 34 months after they embraced the restoration policies of the present administration, all we have witnessed is a drastic decline in the youth initiatives of the present administration.” “The last 34 months of the present administration was a waste. It witnessed a poor relationship between the State and the Youth," he continued.

"We have discovered that there is a conspiracy against the youth of the State by the present administration… Dickson should address the social contract he signed with the youths of the State…. Six months after the renunciation by former cultists, they are now disappointed." "If these issues are not resolved, it will create distrust and promote further insecurity in the state… If he does not come up with a social contract and economic empowerment committee, we will drag him to court," he added.
