According to the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), a 32 year-old Lagos-based trader has died of cocaine ingestion at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The drug trafficker, named Ndulue Emmanuel Obiefuna, collapsed at the departure hall and was taken to a nearby hospital. Mr. Obiefuna was to be a passenger on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to China via Addis Ababa on July 5th.

The NDLEA commander at the Abuja airport, Hamisu Lawan, said that the suspect confessed to cocaine ingestion at the hospital.

“The collapse [in the departure hall] triggered our suspicion and a narcotics officer was assigned to monitor the development,” Mr. Hamisu said. “When the suspect’s condition stabilized at the hospital, he confessed to cocaine ingestion.”
