The Ondo State Student Movement (OSSM), a student revolutionary group, has condemned the continuous closure of the science and technology university in Okitipupa by the draconian government of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.

The student movement, in a statement issued on Wednesday and obtained by a SaharaReporters correspondent, said the senseless closure of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) by Governor Mimiko has deprived the undergraduates of quality and affordable education.

The statement, jointly signed by OSSM President Olusegun Jawosimi and Public Relations Officer Temidire Ibojo, criticized the government of Ondo State for the tuition fee hike that led to the students’ protest and the subsequent indefinite closure of the school. The students also decried the refusal of the State government to pay the yearly stipend of bona fide indigenous students despite forcing them to pay for the eligibility form.

“We hereby condemn in strong term the incivility, senseless and unacceptable indefinite closure of Ondo State University of Science and Technology and the nonpayment of student bursary and scholarship after extorting and forcing students to pay for what they cannot access," the statement read.

The students’ movement demanded the immediate reopening of OSUSTECH, reversal of the institution’s tuition fee, immediate formation of a university governing council, removal of the eligibility fee for bursary and scholarship, and immediate payment of the owed student allowances.
