A 30-year-old man in Maiduguri stabbed his neighbor to death on Sunday evening for because the neighbor was allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, eyewitnesses confirmed.
A 30-year-old man in Maiduguri stabbed his neighbor to death on Sunday evening for because the neighbor was allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, eyewitnesses confirmed.
The man stabbed his neighbor Gbenga Francis, who was an accountant, around 8:30 PM on Sunday after the suspect interceded in an argument between Mr. Francis and his girlfriend. During the ensuing altercation, Mr. Francis was stabbed in the left side of the abdomen. He died the next day at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
"It was a mere argument between the lady and the deceased but before we knew it the alleged suspect and Gbenga had started fighting," neighbor Samuel Luka said. "I rushed to separate them but when I got inside the room I saw the alleged suspect had a knife."
Mr. Luka said he and others apprehended the stabber and handed him over to the police.
Mr. Francis's uncle Abdulwaheed Muhammed said, "The wicked man that stabbed our brother over his girlfriend but must not go unpunished… We urge the police to do their job diligently and let the suspect face the rods of laws.''
