The sources said ‎Boko Haram militants stormed Damasak town on Sunday evening, but were devastated when they met a determined response by members of a multinational military force. Seven insurgents died, with several more sustaining injuries.

Residents of the nearby town of Mobar in Borno State told a correspondent of SaharaReporters  about the fierce battle. A Nigerian security source later confirmed the development.

"If not for these MNJTF (multinational troops) the Boko Haram fighters would have wrecked havoc on our people," a resident if the area said. He urged the ‎Nigerian government to send troops to Damasak immediately, warning that the insurgents were likely to launch another attack.

Last Friday, Niger and Chad, which form part of the multinational joint task force (MNJTF), gave a three-day warning to residents of the besieged town to leave the town before Monday July 13.

On May 18, 2015, the multinational troops recaptured Damasak from Haram militants after 2000 soldiers inflicted heavy casualties on insurgents.
