Barely one week after the abduction of the Chairman of the Odi Compensation Disbursement Committee, Professor Zibokere Daukiye, unidentified gunmen on Thursday kidnapped C.A.O. Otobotekere, a leader of Tombia community in Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The gunmen who arrived at the leader’s residence on Thursday morning fired several shots to scare people away from the area. According to residents who witnessed the incident, the gunshots injured a food vendor in the area who is receiving treatment at Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital Okolobiri.

Police spokesman Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident in Yenagoa on Thursday and said the police had launched a manhunt for the kidnappers.

“On the 23rd of July, 2015, five unknown gunmen, who were heavily armed, went to the residence of His Royal Highness, Chief C.A.O. Otobotekere, in Gbarain Clan of Tombia Community and abducted the chief,” Mr. Butswat said. “The gunmen forced him into a car and drove to Amassoma/Tombia Bridge. They burnt the car beyond recognition, took the victim and whisked away in a waiting speedboat to an unknown destination.”
