A coalition of civil society groups in Bayelsa State has slammed Governor Seriake Dickson over the presentation of N46 million for the payment of stipends and allowances to the members of a local security outfit known as Bayelsa Volunteers, saying such funding is both wasteful and meant to pay for planned violence during the next elections.

Bright Igrubia, the leader of the coalition and President of the National Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN), said yesterday that though Governor Dickson had promised to do more, the 34 months of his administration have shown that its various youths and women empowerment initiatives have failed. “The presentation of N46 million to Bayelsa Volunteers does not amount to youth empowerment,” Mr. Igrubia said.

Mr. Igrubia said that the angry youths and members of civil society groups had resolved to file a lawsuit against Governor Dickson for the poor youth policy, calling its proposed projects “cosmetic.”
