Commercial motorcyclists known as "Okada riders" paralyzed business activities in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Thursday. The motorcyclists were protesting the extortion and exploitation in the form of charges by the Olusegun Mimiko-led state government.

Angry Okada riders numbering in the thousands protested for at least three hours on Oyemekun road, shutting down the premises of the State Ministry of Transport.

Motorcyclists who spoke to SaharaReporters berated the state government of charging them unnecessary fees through the Ministry of Transport.

"Mimiko and his Commissioner for Transport, Nicholas Tofowomo, are forcing and exploiting us on charges of number plates,” one of the protestors told SaharaReporters. Additionally, the protestor said, “They are forcing us to pay for Residency Card 'Kaadi Igbeayo.' "
