Family Petitions IG Of Police Over Suspicious Death, Claim Police Compromised Investigation

The Amungo family have now claimed that their deaths were no accident, and that their bodies were planted in the hotel room to cover up their murder. According to the family’s petition, “the theory of electrocution while having a bath is spurious and hard to believe, especially with evidence at the scene, and crucially, evidence on the photographs supplied by the police.”

The family of a deceased woman, Mrs. Ebiegberi Ejor (nee Amungo), has spoken out against the investigation by Rivers State Police Command in Port Harcourt into the circumstances of Mrs. Ejor’s death. They have submitted a petition to the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to appoint a seasoned investigator to learn about the death of Mrs. Ejor and another individual in her company, Mr. Freedom Harrison.

The Amungo family gave details to our SaharaReporters correspondent that Mrs. Ejor and Mr. Harrison were found dead in a room of Ugalink Hotel in Agip Estate of Port Harcourt. According to the police, they were found naked on the floor in a position of embrace in the bathing area of the bathroom. It is believed that Mrs. Ejor and Mr. Harrison were business associates and knew each other.

The hotel is owned by the current speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Ikuinyi Ibani.

It was learned that the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Chris Ezike, personally broke the news to Mrs. Ejor’s husband Ejor Ngowa Ejor who was a local politician in the State. The police ordered an autopsy on Mrs. Ejor, which was carried out by Dr. Obiorah at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hopsital, which determined her death to be from electrocution.

The determination that Mrs. Ejor and Mr. Harrison died from electrocution while bathing together was collaborated by police statements at the time, according to family sources speaking to SaharaReporters.

The family has also accused the police in Rivers State of showing “gross negligence and incompetence” in the course of their investigation. They also accuse police officers of
directing the pathologist toward their conclusion, despite clear signs of torture on the body of the deceased. The family also argues that there were inconsistencies in the pictures provided by the police of the deceased at the scene where she was discovered.

The family have also revealed in their petition that Commissioner Ezike is a close friend of Mr. Ejor, the deceased’s husband. In fact, Commissioner Ezike was hosted for lunch by the Ejor’s on the day of Mrs. Ejor’s disappearance.

The Amungo family asserts that the Police Commissioner’s closeness to the deceased’s family might affect his professional judgment and interest regarding the investigation of the circumstances of her death.
