His media aide, Mr. Remi Olayiwola, confirmed this to SaharaReporters during a phone interview after he visited the victim’s residence along Oba Ile Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Mr. Olayiwola said the abductors are suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, who have reportedly been disturbing local residents in the area.

He disclosed that Mr. Falae, a former presidential candidate ‎of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD), was seized on his farmland in the Ilado area.

Mr. Olayiwola added that the kidnappers might be hiding inside a nearby forest, said to be quite large.

He added that the family has been given the deadline of tomorrow to produce the ransom money.

"Their [the kidnappers’] accent sounded like that of the Fulani herdsmen. They called and demanded that we pay N100 Million before he would be freed,” Mr. Olayiwola said.

He continued by saying "I can tell you that we are on top of the situation. Many of our members in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) both within Ondo State and outside the State have been calling to sympathize with us.”

Olu Falae is a leader of Pan Yoruba, a socio-political group, and is also the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo, said his men are already on the trail of the abductors.

He disclosed to SaharaReporters that the "Commissioner of Police has ordered officers in the anti-kidnapping department of the command to swing into action."
