Ending Boko Haram Insurgence

October 3, 2015

I feel the stage we are is one that required proper thinking rather than senseless revenge, avenge and revenge. I recalled way back in the early 90's when the so called Amajiris or Alabamusas will come begging for money and they will always come knocking on our doors. Many of them were either blind or have had at least one of their limbs ambutated; their womens carry little strickened, weak children hanging on their dehydrated chests. We often wondered what they have done to deserve such height of deprivations, which is obvious to all now to be corruption by office holders at its extreme. Until it became known that stealing is not corruption, a good number of Nigerians felt we were all equal in peace and unity.

Anyway, back to where I was that in our weekends we hardly need to guess at what time they would be at our door step, as we prepare to give them knocking for coins out of our middle class earnings barely enough to support the family. This was even when the Nigeria economy was fairly okay. One of us said these people might one day turn on us. The onset of the Arab spring is a clue to what corruption can lead to and it is about time we kill corruption else it kills us.

Boko haram are faceless, poor massess that are so aggrieved with the Nigeria Nation state. They are uneducated or half educated who having lost all hope on how to survive turn to violent extremism as a way to send a clear message to reciprocate what the corrupt elite have done to them. And, the first step on what the government must do to appease these rebels is to compensate them, to appeal to them rather than aggravate and to assist them with gainful employments like the over a million jobless Nigerians out there in the Southsouth(Ijaw youths), Southeast(MASSOB) and Southwest(OPC) still waiting for change, show love and beyond that, let there be genuine efforts to rehabiliate them. This, I believe, hold the key to ending BH insurgence. I do have at least 20 other suggestions on ways forward.
