‘Your Nominees Are Made Up Of Recycled, Corrupt Politicians’-Ijaw Youths

The youth leaders, under the aegis of the umbrella body of Ijaw Youths Worldwide and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), said the names President Buhari put forward are politicians involved in corrupt practices, and are known financiers of the present administration.

Youth leaders drawn from Ijaw communities in the Niger Delta region yesterday described the four months it took for President Buhari to nominate ministerial nominees as a “waste of time.”

Youth leaders insisted that the list is made of up recycled and corrupt politicians.

The youth leaders, under the aegis of the umbrella body of Ijaw Youths Worldwide and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), said the names President Buhari put forward are politicians involved in corrupt practices, and are known financiers of the present administration.

The IYC, in a statement issued and signed by its spokesman Comrade Eric Omare, insisted that contrary to the impression created by the Buhari led federal government that the Ministers would be agents of change, the IYC is disappointed that most nominees are recycled politicians and disgruntled former members of the PDP.

According to the IYC, ”we are most disappointed that persons with allegations of corruption pending before anti-graft agencies, and are under investigation, were nominated. This is an obvious compromise in the anti-corruption war and confirmation that Buhari’s anti-graft war is selective.”

“We strongly disagree with the view that the late submission of handover notes by the former administration, and the need to re-organize Ministries, accounted for the delay in submission of the Ministerial list. It is common knowledge that no matter the re-organization, there are key Ministries such as Justice, Finance, Public Infrastructures, and others that would still be sustained,” the statement continued.

The group concluded that, “to the IYC the quality of people nominated as Ministers, and the promised change, is a mirage as these yesterday men and women cannot be the new Nigeria that was promised by President Buhari.”
