The Petitioners, Akeem Muniru and the All Progressives Congress, approached the State and National Assembly Election Tribunal to nullify the election of Tony Nwulu on the grounds that he forged his credentials and for making a false declaration of oath in his INEC forms.

In its detailed judgment, the Tribunal ruled that the case of the Petitioners failed woefully to prove that the documents were forged and that there exist another individual who claims to own the academic credentials in question.

The Tribunal concluded that the names respectively stated in the academic credentials, WAEC result, INEC forms, and others as either belonging to Anthony Onyeulu Nwulu and having proved on oath that the compound name was added to reflect his extended family name which other members of the larger family use in addition to his father's name.

The Tribunal dismissed the petition with N50,000 cost to each of the Respondent (Nwulu, PDP, and INEC)
