Family sources claimed that the former Governor suddenly fell ill in his hometown in Ammassoma, a township of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State and was rushed to Port Harcourt where he was pronounced dead after suffering cardiac arrest.

D.S.P Alameisegha, who was popularly known as "Governor-General of Ijaw Nation," is 62 years old.

Alameiseigha, who was pardoned by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan on his conviction for corrupt practices as Governor of Bayelsa, was recently thrown into a panic by the strange request by the Government of the United Kingdom for his extradition.

The former Governor returned from Dubai recently as it emerged that the government of the United Kingdom requested his extradition over an unfinished corruption and money laundering cases. The request, which had been criticized by Ijaw groups loyal to the former Governor, was seen as a political vendetta by the President Buhari Administration.

SaharaReporters spoke with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who confirmed seeing Alameiseigha in Dubai. The former Vice President told our correspondent that Alameiseigha might have sought medical treatment while in Dubai was looking healthy when they met.

The former Vice President Atiku also confided SaharaReporters that he had just completed surgery in Germany for his medical condition.

Alameisiegha had in recent times been a strong advocate of the second term aspirations of the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State Seriake Dickson.

In his last outing as one of the political leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, D.S.P Alamieiseigha insisted that the perceived onslaught of the APC in the State during the forthcoming December 5 Governorship will not work as the State is sorely for the PDP.
