Multiple Suicide Attacks In Outskirts Of Maiduguri Leaves At Least 7 Dead, More Than 10 Injured

No fewer than 7 people were killed by multiple suicide attacks in the outskirts of Maiduguri yesterday, according to residents and army sources.

''We would like to confirm that there were three suspected human borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attacks at Ajilari, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State. The explosions occurred at 3 minute intervals, 7 people were confirmed dead, including the 3 suicide terrorists, while 11 others sustained various degrees of injuries." The Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Mr. Sani Usman said through a press statement.

However, according to eyewitnesses the death toll was as high as 8 with 19 people injured.  According to these eyewitnesses, the multiple blasts occurred in the Jere Local Government Authority (LGA) of Borno State yesterday between 8:10 PM to 8:15 PM.

The first suicide bomber, believed to be responsible for the deaths of 5 people, was a young boy between the age of 10 and 12.  

According to Kadi Musty, a resident of Dalla Kante, a 10 year-old boy approached a Tea-Seller’s stand as if he wanted to buy tea, but then ‎ detonated his IED. The resident was shocked by the bomber’s age.

''It was unbelievable that such a little boy could be a suicide bomber. We saw him when he was moving towards tea seller stand.”

Representative Mr. Bulama Kadi told SaharaReporters that a restriction on the movements of bicycles, tricycles, vehicles, and girls have been imposed in the Bulunkutu, Gamari, Sajeri, and Dalla areas from 6:30 PM to 6:00 AM.

''As I am speaking to you, we have concluded that no movements of bicycles, tricycle, vehicles as well as young girls will be allowed in our areas from 6:30 PM to 6:00 AM.  This will curb evildoers, we cannot continue like this our people are being killed on almost a weekly basis. In fact the number of widows is increasing on daily basis.''

Hospital sources said 8 corpses were brought from the scenes of the attack. 11 people are currently receiving treatment at State Specialist Hospital. Meanwhile 8 victims were admitted into Umoru Shehu Hospital in Maiduguri.
