Impostor Bags Nine Month Jail Term For N4m Scam

For attempting to use the name of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to defraud a member of the public, one Folusho Stephen was today convicted by a Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Abuja. Justice C.N. Oji sentenced the accused to nine months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to one count of cheating, contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code. He also ordered him to pay a fine of N150,000.

The charge reads: “That you, Folusho Stephen, together with one Esther Momoh (now at large) on or about the 23rd of April, 2015 at Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court attempted to cheat one Henry O. Ojugo to deliver the sum of N400,000 (Four Hundred Thousand Naira) to you by deceiving him that you are a staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and that you are in possession of the petition written against him for abuse of office and you will assist him to destroy the case file and thereby committing an offence punishable under section 95 of the Penal Code Law.’’
