Yesterday the Timi Alaibe Support Group (TASG) dismissed claims by some politicians in Bayelsa State that the decision by the former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Timi Alaibe, to support the candidacy of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate Timipre Sylva was based on negotiation.

According to the group, the claims are false and Mr. Alaibe’s decision to support Timipre Sylva ahead of the December 5th Governorship poll was a collective decision taken with the overall interest of the APC, his supporters, and the people of Bayelsa State in mind.

In Yenagoa the TASG issued a statement, signed by Mr. Patterson Ogon, which claimed that the politicians involved in the false and unsubstantiated claims against Mr. Alaibe were “scavenging opportunists masquerading as political leaders.”

The statement also stressed Mr. Alaibe’s commitment to the people of Bayelsa State noting that, “Mr. Alaibe’s burden was how to extricate the State from the abysmal leadership failure that now holds sway.”

The recent defection of some politicians associated with Mr. Alaibe’s gubernatorial campaign was also addressed, “for the avoidance of doubt, the charade called ‘defection back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’ orchestrated by one or two of our former members should be seen in the light of a comic relief. No individual of means who was Timi Alaibe’s supporter has since left the APC.”
