INTER-MINISTERIAL COOPERATION THAT SHOULD ENGENDER HOLISTIC ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA.

December 1, 2015

At last the economic team has been constituted and the insinuations, postulations and assumptions from all quarters including public and private institutions/individuals, have come to an end.

Seeing that we now know the players, the next phase is the public and private assessment of each individual’s capacity to deliver on the assigned portfolios.

As in the game of football, while individual skills and articulation are very necessary, no player can individually win a match no matter how skillful that player is. Consequently, one would expect our new team of ministers to harmonise their positions on the playground and see how each person’s skill can help the next one meet the set objective (Goal).

For instance, ministries like Finance, Justice, Works/Power and Industry, Trade & Investment (ITI) should consider a well thought out synchronisation model with each other given the obvious inter-dependency of their ministries to bring about good performance. For ITI to achieve the objective of wooing investors locally and abroad, there must first be an enabling environment both- soft and hard- in terms of legal framework and functional infrastructure coupled with the right economic/monetary policy to attract such investments.

To that end, it will do the nation much good if these ministries can cooperate to bring about the much needed change in the economic space of Nigeria to save the nation from drifting into unwanted recession.

In the same vein, other ministries should meet to see how their collaborative efforts can bring about more performance individually, which in turn will better the lots of Nigerians.

Thank you as we welcome on board our Honourable Ministers.
