900 Civilians Freed, 100 Boko Haram Fighters Killed Cameroonian Military Claims

On Tuesday, Cameroonian Defense Ministry claimed that Cameroonian soldiers killed more than 100 Boko Haram fights and freed more than 900 civilians held captive by the insurgent group.

Speaking to the BBC on Tuesday, the Defense Minister, Joseph Beti Assomo, stated that the freed civilians were the result of a three-day operation conducted at the end of November.  

Thus far, there has been no independent verification of the Cameroonian military’s claims regarding the rescue operation.  According to Vanguard Newspaper, the West African nation suffered a twin suicide attack on Tuesday which left four dead, Boko Haram is believed responsible for the attack.

Cameroon is part of a regional Joint Military Task Force (JTF) dedicated to fighting the terrorist group.
