Two Major Defections Prove To Be A Setback For Ondo PDP

December 21, 2015

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State suffered a setback when a former Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial District, Ayo Patrick Akinyelure, and Director General of the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Pius Olakunle Osunyikanmi, resigned from the Party today.

The duo, in a joint statement tagged "Our Journey of Change Begin," issued on Monday and obtained by a SaharaReporters correspondent in Akure, announced their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The two former PDP members said their decision to defect was made after a series of consultations with their constituents and colleagues.

"Our decision was taken after several months of wide consultations with our esteemed leaders, constructive constituents, fervent followers and very distinguished admirers from the length and breadth of Ondo State,” the duo wrote.

They added, “the mood in Ondo State, as clearly expressed in the last general election, shows that the people truly want a change. In spite of the fact that we have a PDP government in the State, our people voted massively for President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.”

Both men concluded that their decision to align with the APC was hinged on the need to engender good governance and "put the State in the mainstream of national politics.”
