Governor Oshiomhole Confirms Explosion, No Confirmation If Bomb Blast

The Governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomhole confirmed that “some explosion” occurred in Benin City, the capital of Edo State to a SaharaReporters correspondent by phone today. Mr. Oshiomhole stated that the Edo State authorities were not in possession of enough information to declare that the explosion was caused by a bomb.

Mr. Oshiomhole stated that the Edo State authorities were not in possession of enough information to declare that the explosion was caused by a bomb.

“We are not sure yet that the explosion was from a bomb. We are investigating and will follow up tomorrow with a more definitive answer,” he told our correspondent.

Mr. Oshiomhole did, however, confirm that there were no fatalities in the explosion “one man was injured, and he was sent to the hospital.” He narrated further that “he was burning something, and it seems the fire caught something which exploded.”

According to other reports, the 3 P.M. blast caused havoc across Benin City. Bomb disposal experts from the State Police Command were dispatched to investigate. Vanguard newspaper reported that at least five houses were destroyed by the explosion.
