During a live media address, also carried by radio and television stations in the State, Mr. Dickson claimed the uptick in crime was all the work of the opposition who wished to undermine the security of the State in the lead up to the governorship election.

The governor had tough words for the criminals as well, warning that he would flush them out of the State by using a new comprehensive security plan to combat kidnapping, sea piracy, pipeline vandalism, and other violent crimes.

Governor Dickson warned that the success of this new plan depended on the State’s civil servants drastically improve their work or “ship out”.

“Civil servants in Bayelsa must sit up now. They must shape up or ship out. I am going to have an interaction with them and issue the marching order. No civil servant in Bayelsa will be allowed to be treacherous, disloyal to government, and unprofessional in and out of office.

“They are more interested in running down their government and their State. We can’t allow that anymore, and I am going to get that job and sanitize the service within the next four years”, Mr. Dickson warned.

Last week rumors spread that Governor Dickson planned to downsize the civil service due to the economic recession facing Bayelsa State.
