I Would Have Resigned If I Were Senate President Bukola Saraki's Shoes - Senator Fatai Buhari

The Chairman Senate Committee of ICT and Cybercrime, Dr. Fatai Buhari has said he would have resigned if he was the one facing trial like the Nigerian Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki making reference to the resignation of the Prime Minister of Iceland. According to Senate Buhari  “ I hate to talk about personalities but on issues, but on this matter as a person I would have done the same thing the Prime Minister of Iceland did, I will resign from that position whether I am right or wrong”. The senator made his position on the trial of the Nigerian Senate President known while addressing journalist on the "State of the Nation"  in Ibadan earlier today.

He assured Nigerians that the APC-led administration of  President Muhammadu Buhari has good intentions and plans to transform Nigeria into a better country and will fix and restore the lost glory of the country in a matter of time. The Senator representing Oyo North in the Senate further reassured Nigerians that the APC will not betray the confidence reposed in them.  The APC lawmaker who apologised on behalf of his party said, "We are very sorry about the current situation of things in the country, nobody ever envisaged that things were that bad in the country under the previous administration but we have seen it now and we will surely fix it. We understand what Nigerians are passing through, and we won’t make it harder on them till we solve the problems, what we promised Nigerians is safe landing and we shall surely deliver on our promises.”

Speaking on the fuel crisis, Senator Buhari opined that the country needs to hasten action to deregulate the sector.  “We are in this mess because of our poor maintenance culture, if we had maintained the existing refineries in the country, we would not have relied on imported refined products for sustenance ”.

He also noted that beyond crude oil,  the committee he chairs in the Senate is also looking at how ICT can also serve as a huge source of revenue for the country citing as example country like Korea that doesn't have crude oil but built their economy on ICT and today the country is one of the most advanced country in the world”. The Senator, who is also a member of the appropriation committee, stated it clearly that the mistakes and errors in the 2016 budget have been corrected and details submitted to President Buhari for assent and implementation.
