The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) trial of Godsday Orubebe, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, was postponed on Thursday due to the absence of CCT Chairman Umar Danladi.

According to CCT Head of Press and Public Relations, Ibraheem Alhassan, the judge was absent to mourn the death of his aunt.

Mr. Orubebe is being charged with one count of false asset declaration, to which he pleaded not guilty.

At the last hearing, the prosecution witness, Samuel Madojemu, stated that Mr. Orubebe did not declare Plot 2057 in Asokoro District, Abuja, while he was serving as Minister from 2007 to 2011.

It will be recalled that Mr. Orubebe made a national spectacle of himself when, in 2015 while the Independent National Election Commission Chairman Attahiru Jega was publicly collating votes for the presidential election, he sent the proceedings to a standstill as he claimed Mr. Jega was compromising the elections.

His trial is now set to resume on April 20.
