According to the spokesman for the Command, Kayode Balogun, the fuel tanker with the registration number FST 309 XR was caught while diverting 11,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit petrol to a gas station belonging to an independent marketer in the State.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo State Command announced on Thursday that it intercepted a branded petroleum tanker belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) used in diverting petrol content to independent marketers in the State.
According to the spokesman for the Command, Kayode Balogun, the fuel tanker with the registration number FST 309 XR was caught while diverting 11,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit petrol to a gas station belonging to an independent marketer in the State.
"The tanker was caught by the officers of the Command while discharging 11,000 liters of petrol at the Satabest filling station located along Ijoka Road, Akure, Ondo State.
"At the time the tanker was caught, it had already discharged about 11,000 liters of petrol in the filling station and it was discovered that 22,000 liters had been discharged in an undisclosed filling station earlier, which is still under investigation,” he said.
Mr. Balogun stated that the Commandant of the Corps, Fasiu Adeyinka, instructed the driver of the petrol tanker to immediately sell the petroleum at the official price of N86 per liter to the awaiting consumers at the gas station.
Sources at the gas station who witnessed the dubious process of the NNPC driver told a SaharaReporters correspondent that the waybill of the petroleum does not specify the location where the product was meant to be delivered.
"This shows that the product is suspected to have been diverted after the NNPC driver had been bribed," the source revealed.
The NSCDC had already warned independent marketers against in the State to desist from all forms of sharp practices and illegality, noting that the Command is on the alert to fish out culprits.
The Corps has also vowed to began a clampdown on all gas stations selling above the federal government official pump price of N86 and charged the people of the State to furnish the Command with timely information about the incessant activities of major marketers diverting gas content.
It also advised the members of the public to inform the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) in the State about any gas station still selling above the pump price.
