Army Nabs Fake Soldier In Ondo State

SaharaReporters learned on Monday that the suspect was arrested in a local suburb of Agadagba in Ese Odo Local Government Area (LGA), Ondo State this past weekend.

Officers of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Ondo State have apprehended Dokio Olotu, for impersonating a military officer.

SaharaReporters learned on Monday that the suspect was arrested in a local suburb of Agadagba in Ese Odo Local Government Area (LGA), Ondo State this past weekend. 

Captain Ojo Adelegan, the Director of Army Public Relations in the Artillery Brigade in Ondo, said the fake soldier had been terrorizing the people of the area for a very long time.

Mr. Adelegan stated that the fake soldier was nabbed after conducting a thorough surveillance operation following a series of complaints from locals in the waterside area of the State that the culprit was in the habit of intimidating the residents with force.

He disclosed that the Special Fast Track Squad (SFTS) of the military joint force who were on street patrol in Okitipupa apprehended the suspect in his hideout in the community.

"The fake officer was caught after we established civil-military relations. He had been terrorizing and extorting money from the people of the area claiming to be a soldier and using the show of force," the army spokesman said.

He added that the culprit dressed in full military camouflage and had been parading himself as an army officer.

SaharaReporters gathered that the items recovered from the fake soldier included military camouflage, a military hat, and a pair of jungle boots.

The army has also promised to hand over the suspect to the law enforcement agency for further interrogation and investigation.
