BOT Should Run PDP Starting May 21, PDP Northern Elders Say

Mr. Gana said that Mr. Sheriff and his gang must leave the stage and allow the Board of Trustees to run the party beginning on May 21.

Northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elders have called on the National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to hand over leadership of the party to the Board of Trustees on May 21.

The elders said the Board should run the party starting that day, when the tenure of the present members of the National Working Committee (NWC) expires.

They made his decision after their meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.

The meeting was one of numerous being held by several angry groups within the party over the desire of Mr. Sheriff to remain in office beyond May 21 despite the assurances he had given to the party leaders that he would not stay more than three months in office.

The elders' forum comprised all the former PDP office holders from the northern States and the party's founding fathers.

A former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana, assisted by a former Deputy President of the Senate, Ibrahim Mantu, briefed journalists after the forum's meeting.

Mr. Gana said that Mr. Sheriff and his gang must leave the stage and allow the Board of Trustees to run the party beginning on May 21.

"We expect the current members of the NWC to vacate their seats on May 21 when their tenure expires. In order to avoid a vacuum, the Board of Trustees should... allow a proper transition when a new date for the convention is announced and new leaders are elected, " he said.
