Two Die As Suspected Herdsmen Attack Ekiti Community

The residents of Oke-Akoko in Ikole Local Government Council of Ekiti State now live in palpable fear as suspected herdsmen invaded the community yesterday's evening during which two men died and several others sustained various degrees of injury.

An investigation by SaharaReporters revealed that one of the dead men was simply identified as Lekan Arosanyin, though the second casualty's identity still remained unknown while other four victims that sustained serious injuries have been taken to a private hospital in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

Our correspondent gathered from one of the residents in the community, Mrs Grace Olofin, that the herdsmen invaded the area at about 8 pm in group with dangerous weapons including guns, bows and arrows and started shooting sporadically.

Olofin added that the residents of the town fled into the bush in different directions for safety.

Meanwhile, it was unofficially learnt that a detachment of mobile policemen had been dispatched to the area, while an officer who preferred anonymity said the matter is under investigation.

Efforts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) proved abortive as at press time, just as the reason for the attack remained sketchy.
