After the killing at Kano what next?

After the beheading of Mrs. Bridget Agbahime by Kano youths, President Muhammadu Buhari in an official statement through his special adviser on media and publicity Mr. Femi Adeshina condemned the killing of the mother of one, he was quoted to have said “Let us ensure that we keep the peace as justice would be done. Let us learn to respect each other’s faith so we can know each other and live together in peace”. This piece did not go down well with many Nigerians especially the people from the eastern part of the country, has the President has been accused of being a ethno – religious bigot.

It was recorded that Mrs. Bridget was murdered for alleged blasphemy against Islam. Many questions beg for answer in regards to this terrible incident.

With the way the government of the day is handling the matter one would say that little or nothing would be done to apprehend the culprits of this barbaric act.

In the last one year of this administration several genocide has been perpetrated including Fulani herdsmen killings in different part of the country and going scout free, one appalling example is the massacre of the people of Ukpabi Nimbo community in Enugu state. It was reported that the then commissioner of police of the state was duly informed of a possible attack by this dreaded group but he waived it off as a mere rumor. The police boss was only sacked and allowed to continue is normal life as no charges has been levelled against him and no culprits has been apprehended since then. Would it not repeat itself again?

Would the family of Mrs. Bridget get justice? That a question only President Muhammadu Buhari can answer. The government needs to remember that the sole purpose of government is to provide welfare for all persons in our country on the principles of freedom, equality and justice for the purpose of consolidating the unity of our people.
