Kaduna State Govt Condemns Attack In Kakuri

“The government will not allow anyone to get away with any crime using his or her faith as an excuse."

The Kaduna State government has condemned Tuesday’s attack on a citizen in Kakuri, which it believes was religiously motivated.

The victim, Francis Emmanuel, is currently recuperating in St. Gerald’s Hospital. He was visited by Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai and Deputy Governor Barnabas Yusuf Bala, who assured Mr. Emmanuel that the government would not allow criminals to use religion as a justification to attack innocent citizens.

“The government will not allow anyone to get away with any crime using his or her faith as an excuse,” the governor said in a press release.

“There is no compulsion in religion. It is a free country, and that means no imposition of faith or religious practices on anyone.”

The governor implored citizens of Kaduna State to “do their duty to uphold peace and security” in the State.

“We should not allow differences in faith to be a barrier to harmony or a cause for conflict. Nobody can impose a tenet of his faith on another person,” he said.

The governor added that citizens should “remain vigilant” and report any suspicious activities to the authorities in order to maintain peace in the State.

This attack comes a week after a woman was decapitated in Kano State for allegedly “blaspheming” the Prophet Muhammad.
