PDP Assigns Portfolios To Caretaker Committee

The make-up of the seven-person committee was announced during the Maiden Meeting of PDP staffers from the PDP National Secretariat and the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) with the National Caretaker Committee.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) assigned portfolios to its National Caretaker Committee on Thursday.

The make-up of the seven-person committee was announced during the Maiden Meeting of PDP staffers from the PDP National Secretariat and the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI) with the National Caretaker Committee.

The seven members of the committee and their positions are: Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Chairman; Senator Ben Obi, Secretary; Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Publicity; Hajiya Aisha Aliyu, Women & Youth; Senator Abdul Ningi, Organization & Mobilization; Senator Odion Ognesia, Financial, Treasury & Audit; and Kabir Usman, Legal.

The PDP constituted the committee at its national convention, which was held on May 21, 2016 in Port Harcourt. Only two functions were mentioned at the convention, namely the Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, and the Secretary, Ben Obi. Other members of the committee did not have portfolios assigned to them at the convention.

According to a press release signed by PDP spokesperson Chinwe Nnorom, “The National Chairman of the Party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, reiterated that the Committee will not exceed the period given to them by the National Convention to reorganize, reform and conduct a free, fair, credible, and all inclusive National Convention.”

The PDP has been in a leadership crisis since May, when the party attempted to remove its chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, from office at the national convention.
