Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase has called for calm following the unfortunate death of a police officer, ASP Mathew Akpos, who was allegedly killed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Bayelsa State Command earlier this month.
A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olabisi Kolawole, quoted Mr. Arase as emphasizing that the police authorities have waded into the matter to ensure that justice is served.
"Upon receipt of the information, the IGP immediately directed that the matter should be investigated to ensure justice is served.
"Meanwhile, all the policemen linked with the killing of the officer have been arrested, detained and are presently undergoing investigation for subsequent prosecution.
"The IGP, therefore, called on the family and friends of the deceased officer to remain calm and patient, as the police authorities would not relent in their efforts to ensure professionalism in carrying out their constitutional assignment," Mr. Kolawole said.
