IGP Idris Deploys Tactical Unit In Ogun Targeting Armed Criminals

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, announced the deployment of a Tactical Operation Unit to “flush out vandals and other criminal elements in Arepo and Ibafor areas of Ogun State,” according to the Force Public Relations Officer Don Awunah in a press statement.

This tactical unit will comprise the Police Mobile Force, the Counter-Terrorism Unity, and receive support from an Air Surveillance Team. Mr. Awunah added that the deployment will remain in effect until normalcy has returned to the area.

Mr. Idris said on the matter that “the Nigeria Police Force will not watch any criminal group or groups take the law into their hands, he therefore authorized the Unit to deal decisively with anyone who constitutes himself an enemy of the State, while asking law-abiding citizens of the area to return home and go about their normal businesses.”

The press statement also added that the Arepo and Ibafor areas have had “anti-social behaviours from miscreants.”

This is one of the first official statements Mr. Idris has made since being appointed to the position of Inspector-General of the Police on June 20th.
