Abducted Ondo Monarch Rescued in Edo State

Oba Abiodun Oyewumi, the Laragunsin of Iyansan in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo state abducted last week Monday has been released; a palace source has confirmed to SaharaReporters.

The palace source who was full of joy in telephone call further confirmed that Oba Oyewumi was released in the early hours of Sunday after six days in captivity in the kidnappers den in Edo state.

This source revealed that some local chiefs in the community have been visiting the renowned tradition leader at his family house.

“The monarch is now recounting his ordeals with the chiefs and family members.

“According to him, it was a terrible experience,” he said.  

However, the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) also confirmed the release of the monarch.

The Command Spokesman, Mr. Femi Joseph who confirmed the update during a phone conversation with SaharaReporters said no ransom was paid.

He said the police with the joint effort of the officers of the DSS rescued the monarch at a thick forest in Edo state.

“The monarch was released in the earlier hours of today [Sunday] at an area called Igbanke community in Edo state.

“He was rescued unhurt, and it was a combined effort. No ransom was paid,” Femi said.
