Abducted Ondo Monarch Rescued in Edo State

The source further confirmed that Mr. Oyewumi was released in the early hours of Sunday after spending six days in captivity in the kidnappers' den.

Oba Abiodun Oyewumi, the Laragunsin of Iyansan in Irele Local Government Area (LGA), Ondo State who was abducted last week on Monday, has been released, a palace source has confirmed to SaharaReporters.

The source further confirmed that Mr. Oyewumi was released in the early hours of Sunday after spending six days in captivity in the kidnappers' den.

He revealed that some local chiefs in the community have visited the renowned traditional leader at his family house.

“The monarch is now recounting his ordeals with the chiefs and family members. According to him, it was a terrible experience”, he said.  

The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) also confirmed the release of the monarch.

The Command spokesperson, Mr. Femi Joseph, who confirmed the update during a phone conversation with a SaharaReporters correspondent in Akure, said no ransom was paid.

He said the police with the joint effort of the officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) rescued the monarch in a thick forest in Edo State.

“The monarch was released in the earlier hours of today [Sunday] in an area called Igbanke community in Edo State.

"He was rescued unhurt and it was a combined effort. No ransom was paid,” Mr. Joseph said.
